I posted earlier that my top song of 2018 was “Baby You’re A Haunted House” by Gerard Way but I wanted to share some more songs that I was also obsessed with that came out in 2018.
How amazing was October 26, 2018? Not only did we get "Baby You’re A Haunted House", but IDKHow dropped the lyric video for "Bleed Magic" which I think is my favorite song by the band so far. This whole year has been magic, this song caps that off for me.
I don’t get sick often, however I ended up needing to take a sick day on the day this song was released. I am very glad for that fact because I would have been quite embarrassed to be sobbing like a baby in the middle of my cubicle because of this beautiful song.
Over on the complete opposite end of the spectrum is this song. I loved it from the first time I heard it. It goes hard, and the lyrics are clever.
This is one of my favorite tracks off MANIA and probably my favorite music video of the year. There are so many lines in the song that I love, but “I hope the roof flies off and you get blown into space” is such a brutal dig, I absolutely love it.
Brendon did right by having this be the lead single off Pray for the Wicked. This song never fails to get me pumped up. I'm still disappointed that P!ATD was not asked to perform this on Saturday Night Live.
“All Ready To Go” by Taking Back Sunday "All Ready To Go" one of two new songs that will be on Taking Back Sunday’s twentieth anniversary album Twenty that came out at the start of 2019. This music video is especially cool as it's beautifully animated.
The lyrics of this song tell the story of a happy night, but what really makes this song beautiful is the quiet imagery of being by the ocean. The bass drum hits in a way that feels like the waves rolling in, and at the end, the way it fades as if you're slipping below the surface of the water. Oh, I really just cannot say enough good things about this gorgeous song, I absolutely love it.
The whole Lake Effect Kid EP is amazing, but honestly if you can listen to this song and not be smiling by the end, I don’t know what to think. Fall Out Boy's love of their hometown is endearing. Growing up as a kid in a town on multiple lakes, I can say I identify as well.
Other singles worth mentioning, but this post is long enough already:
