Top Albums of 2020

Well, I think it’s safe to say that all the albums that are coming out in 2020 are now out.

(Taylor Swift, if you’re reading this: please, wait until 2021.)

Anyway, here we are at the end of the weirdest, and probably worst year in recent history. The music industry was majorly impacted, from cancelled tours, to disruptions to merch production, to how bands promote their music has changed. But one thing that didn't change was the fact that music was released. A lot of really good music specifically. And without further ado, here are my favorite albums of 2020.

Razzmatazz by I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME

The long awaited debut album by the band that started in secret finally arrived in October. The lead single "Leave Me Alone" has reached number 2 on the alternative charts (as of today) and the album is full of potential hits like the title track, Lights Go Down, Sugar Pills, and what I think might be one of the most romantic songs of this year, if not ever, Kiss Goodnight.

Stylistically, the album is very unique from its vintage sound, to the two additional tracks on the physical copy that adds on to the mythology that the band has created in their music videos and social media posts with the mysterious Tellexx Corporation.

Honestly, I am very biased. I love IDKHow, they're one of my favorite bands, but I think it holds up as one of the best albums of 2020 regardless.

evermore by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift managed to make not one, but two albums secretly while in quarantine this year. evermore, the second of these two albums just came out on December 11th, just in time for her 31st birthday on the 13th and maybe because it's a little more fresh in my mind, but I think it's the superior of the two albums. tis the damn season may be one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs across all albums, while cowboy like me, gold rush, no body no crime are all stand outs. I do feel like I need a bit more time to process the album completely, but I think it's also one of my top 3 favorite Taylor Swift albums.

Wake Up Sunshine by All Time Low

All Time Low really came out with an amazing album when they released Wake Up Sunshine. The album is artfully crafted pop punk. Monster has been dominating the alternative charts, and keeping IDKHow out of the top spot. There are so many great tracks on this album and my favorites are Favorite Place, Safe, Clumsy, Glitter & Crimson and Basement Noise which is one of those nostalgia filled tracks that reminds you how far the boys from Baltimore have come.

Some additional albums that I feel are noteworthy this year include:

  • Heartwork by The Used

  • Possession by Joywave

  • Get Z to the Nunnery by Z Berg

  • folklore by Taylor Swift

  • Use Me by PVRIS

  • Manic by Halsey

  • Death of an Optimist by Grandson

  • Paradise by Red City Radio

  • Post Human: Survival Horror by Bring Me the Horizon

All these albums can be found here on my Top Albums of 2020 Playlist
