I’m still incredibly fascinated and stunned by everything that My Chemical Romance has unveiled for us today. I recapped it on my last post, but to briefly summarize, after six years MCR is back! Luckily for us they didn’t drag this out for very long, and over the course of an hour this afternoon they dropped four cryptic new symbols on their brand-new Instagram page. These symbols have been on my mind all day, and I have some thoughts.

The first symbol to be posted was the Candle with the words “ex. 1 Clarity” which became their new profile photo. I’ve done some research, but I can’t find anything on what that symbol on it might mean, other than my one theory that is reinforced by the theme that runs through all these symbols: Hands.
I believe each of these represents one of the members of the band. The first one represents singer Gerard Way. He has a way of holding his microphone where he extends his pinky finger as shown below. I also believe that the phrase Clarity applies to him because the band gave him clarity in what he wanted in life.

The next post had a droplet with a fist inside and the word Courage. I believe this pertains to bassist Mikey Way. He had dealt with mental health and substance abuse issues while MCR was originally together, something that takes a lot of courage to overcome.
The third post was an open hand with a smaller hand inside and the word Sacrifice. I believe this pertains to guitarist Frank Iero because of his three children and the sacrifice of being in the band and way from his family.
The last post was a sun appearing to come out of the ground with a hand on it as well and the word Devotion. This I believe applies to guitarist Ray Toro because he from the beginning was so dedicated to the band.
Granted any of these symbols and phrases could apply to each of the members of the band as they all had to sacrifice and have courage to be in a band that was as popular and toured as long as MCR did, they all had to be devoted and I think they had to have gained some sense of clarity while the band was not together.
I’d like to hear any other theories or ideas regarding these symbols!
